How to Choose The Right Art for Your Home

One of the most common concerns I hear is "How do I choose the right artwork for my home?"

The struggle is real.

With so many options to choose from, and maybe no clear vision yet, it can be overwhelming! It can feel intimidating to choose wall art in your home, because it defines your style and affects how you feel every day.

So let’s embrace this… I think choosing wall art for your home is much more intuitive than most think and does not have to be so stressful. Here’s a few tips that may help, let’s go room by room… and keep in mind that art can be in rotation, swapped with another piece to create a different feel now and then, or an archival print not an original that is a little less of an investment.

Here’s a few hacks to help you decide!

Kitchen

This area really gets neglected when it comes to art…It is very often called the "heart of the home" and a great space to incorporate small pieces with high personality and food/travel memories. Maybe even a custom Medicinal Painting made from the herbs of a favorite dish!

Bedroom

Your bedroom is the ultimate extension of your inner emotional landscape and need for rest and regulation. The most common statement walls are over the bed or an adjacent wall above a dresser.

For your bedroom wall art, think about how you want to feel and choose images that align. A soothing color scheme and abstract texture that can adapt with our inner world could work perfectly here. Consider art that is only softly defined by narrative and not so visually loud and saturated in color to steer away from your nervous system being kept awake and over stimulated!

Home office

Many of us work from home, and your home office needs to keep you uplifted and motivated to get through!

Here you can go more vibrant with color and add multiple wall art pieces to adorn your room.

Consider a Diptych or Triptych to add visual organization through repetition of a similar series of images.

Bathroom

Another space people underestimate when it comes to art is bathrooms!

Many bathrooms are smaller and therefore we can’t stand back to view large art. Consider pieces that are more intimate in size, intricate texture and detail, because they are meant to be viewed from a closer distance.

If you have a larger main bathroom,  go for a larger statement piece and just make sure to frame it behind glass or sealed to protect against moisture. Use that fan, y’all!

Living Room

The living room is a social space and often the first room your loved ones will see when they spend time in your home.  So it’s a great space to showcase something that’s a real statement in size, and personality! This is ideally a surprising conversation starter that sparks the sharing of stories, memories and possible interpretations of an abstract composition… even just the process of decorating and the history of the home or how you arrived at finding the artwork! Artwork connects and bonds us. It holds a mirror to many inner things that are difficult to express with words and it’s a wonderful important aspect to a public space. Unique art also has the distinct power to really elevate even the most beginning stages of interior design to another level.

I hope these tips help and lastly…

If there’s still an empty wall, reach out and let’s try a few things on virtually before you purchase and hang your new piece!!
